I offer a free initial telephone or online consultation of 20 minutes, for you to get to know how I work, ask any questions you may have, and ensure that it feels like a good therapeutic fit for you. Research has shown that rapport between client and counsellor is the strongest indicator of success in counselling.
For individual, couples and family counselling, I regularly charge $140 per hour, based upon generally accepted clinical counselling charges. Many extended health benefit plans will cover the cost of seeing a Registered Social Worker. I accept payment by cash, cheque or Paypal, and at the end of each session I provide a printed receipt. I review payment options and agreements with you when we initially discuss counselling services, and will sign a service agreement upon our first session. I offer some sliding scale rates for people who are facing financial hardship, but those appointments are limited and a waiting list may sometimes occur. If payment is a challenge, contact me and we can discuss counselling and payment options.
Together we establish the session length and frequency according to your needs with input from my years of clinical experience. For an initial assessment session, I gather a broad understanding of your background and specific issues at hand, and we draft a plan of action for our work together. For couples counselling, I do some pre-screening before starting the therapeutic process, to ensure that both partners are wanting to participate, and that there are no current safety concerns within the relationship.
As further interest develops, there may be opportunities for participation in groups and weekend workshops. Fees for those services will be determined as they arise.
